City FM were facing reliability issues with the generator system at ASDA Kingswood and needed a team of trusted experts to sort it out. Fluctuating charge alternator readings and concerns about the engine starter battery raised the need for comprehensive maintenance to prevent any potential power disruptions. Canning Generator Solutions answered the call.
The Solution
The work in front of us was clear: we were contracted by CityFM to provide a thorough inspection and maintenance to prevent potential disruptions to ASDA Kingswood’s critical power infrastructure. Given our vast experience in this line of work, we were the obvious choice to carry out the task.
Inspection & Component Replacement
We began by securing the site, conducting a Dynamic Risk Assessment to make sure the working environment was safe. Once permits were in place, we isolated the generator, disconnecting the battery charger and heater, and safely removing the batteries for further inspection.
With the generator isolated, our team got to work! First, we removed the engine fan guard to access and replace the charge alternator, making sure the belt tension was adjusted correctly. Next, we cleaned the radiator matrix and re-fitted the fan guards. The engine’s coolant system was drained and replaced with a 50/50 mix to improve cooling efficiency.

Final Testing
Despite some minor internal issues with the DSE control unit, during system finalisation we ensured the control panel and battery charging functioned properly. Once testing confirmed everything was in order, we returned the controller to its auto position, signed out of the site, and closed the permits. All problems with the generator were resolved, and it was now fit to operate seamlessly long-term. In other words, the maintenance was successfully completed!

By addressing mechanical issues by replacing the alternator, improving cooling efficiency, and upgrading key components, our team made sure the system was working properly and was future-proofed for long-term operation.
