Trusted by Leading Organisations

One of the world’s largest private FM companies faced operational challenges related to the generator system at one of its retail stores.

Fluctuations in the charge alternator reading and concerns about the engine starter battery prompted the need for a thorough inspection and maintenance to prevent potential disruptions to the store’s critical power infrastructure.

Initiating the project, our team underwent initial procedures by opening necessary permits and conducting a Dynamic Risk Assessment to establish a secure working environment. The focus then shifted to generator isolation, where the battery charger and heater were isolated, and batteries were removed to ensure the generator’s safe isolation.

The inspection and replacement of engine components were crucial steps in the maintenance process. The team removed the engine fan guard, allowing access to the charge alternator, which was then replaced with attention to proper belt tension. Additionally, the radiator matrix was cleaned, and radiator fan guards were re-fitted. Following this, the cooling system received maintenance, with the engine drained of coolant and replaced with a 50/50 mix of coolant.

Mechanical upgrades included the replacement of governor AV mounts to enhance stability and performance, along with replacing the failed engine starter battery with a new one. The team proceeded with functional testing and troubleshooting, running the generator under load to ensure optimal performance. Fluctuations in the charge alternator reading were observed, leading to thorough checks, including voltage checks into the DSE (Deep Sea Electronics) control unit, where potential internal faults were addressed.

Despite internal issues in the DSE control unit, system finalisation ensured that the operation of the control panel and battery charging during operation remained unaffected. The controller was returned to the auto position, signifying the completion of maintenance work. The team signed out of the site and closed all permits associated with the project, marking the successful completion of the comprehensive maintenance procedures.
